Finding out that you are pregnant for the first time is a major milestone in a woman’s life. Whether the pregnancy was planned or unplanned many women are at first in a state of disbelief. They take one home pregnancy test after another because they are sure the test must be wrong somehow. Nature has a way though of helping women to come to terms with the idea that they are truly pregnant by presenting several emotional and physical changes. Being pregnant for the first time can be scary. It is a new experience so there are often many worries and questions that develop as these emotional and physical changes occur. Knowing what emotional and physical changes can be expected during a pregnancy and what resources are available to help one cope with these changes can be empowering.

Emotional changes with pregnancy are common. Some women experience extreme mood swings as hormone levels fluctuate. Others find themselves deliriously happy throughout the pregnancy. Both are very normal. Increased stress levels are also common as women worry about the baby’s health, their health, and all the forthcoming lifestyle changes that being pregnant and having a baby will bring about. On top of the emotional fluctuations and added stress many women suddenly find themselves battling against bouts of forgetfulness during pregnancy. In general pregnancy can be an emotionally trying time with many ups and downs.

There are steps one can take to cope with the emotional changes of pregnancy. Resting, eating nutritiously, and participating in some light exercise are all excellent mood lifters and help to combat fatigue. Talking with a trusted healthcare provider or friend can alleviate many concerns and fears thus minimizing stress. Changes are always easier to deal with when they are not a surprise. It is a good idea to learn more about your body and what to expect whilst being pregnant. There are many books, magazines, classes, and websites that are devoted to pregnancy and child birth.

In addition to emotional changes, pregnancy also brings about several physical changes. One of the most obvious physical changes is weight gain. A woman of average weight should expect to gain 25-35 pounds when pregnant. A woman who is underweight should gain 28-40 pounds, while one who is overweight should gain only 15-25 pounds during. To meet these weight gain guidelines pregnant women should plan to consume about 100-300 calories more per day than they did pre-pregnancy. Many women find that they are gaining more weight than they anticipated while pregnant. However, it is important to remember that dieting to lose weight during pregnancy is not safe and is never recommended.

During pregnancy along with weight gain often come stretch marks. Stretch marks usually occur on the abdomen, upper legs, and breasts. Some women have had success minimizing stretch marks by using alpha-hydroxy acid based lotions and creams. Staying physically active and gaining weight in a slow and steady fashion also help to minimize stretch marks. Other common skin changes associated with pregnancy are the worsening of acne, the appearance of spider veins, darkening of facial skin (the mask of pregnancy) and hair and nail changes. Luckily the many skin, hair, and nail changes that are associated with pregnancy usually go away automatically post-pregnancy. However, treatments are available if skin changes are severe. For mild acne, daily use of an over –the-counter cleanser that contains alpha-hydroxy acid can help to decrease breakouts. For severe acne there are some medications and topical antibiotics that can safely be prescribed during pregnancy. Spider veins that do not resolve on their own can be removed post pregnancy by laser treatments. Masks of pregnancy can be prevented by the use of sunscreen and treated post pregnancy by chemical peels or bleaching creams.

These emotional and physical changes are just a few of many that occur with pregnancy. They become a part of a woman’s journey into parenthood. Each woman’s experience is unique so as pleasant or unpleasant as your pregnancy symptom’s may be remember to savor the journey while you are busily looking forward to the next chapter in your life.

Finding a stretch mark cream is as easy as turning on your computer, there are about a million different types available online. However, finding an effective stretch mark cream is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. There are no shortages of companies that make and market these creams, and if you are not careful you will buy into the marketing scheme rather than product itself.

Because many of the marketing campaigns for these creams are the only thing worth buying! In other words some of the creams are less than truthful on their product claims. So, how do you make sure you buy one of the effective creams, and not one of posers? The answer to this is simply by researching the product before you buy it, which is exactly what I am about to do with this cream.

When researching a product you always want to list the Pros and Cons of the product as well as the ingredients actions. This will help you decide what products are best suited for your specific needs and if the product is really as effective as you want. Mustela Special Stretch Marks Double Action Cream has some obvious pros and cons, as does any product, let’s look a little closer.

Pros:

This formula is specifically designed for use during pregnancy and postpartum, which means that it has been tested under gynecological standards and control.

It is safe to use with ultrasound machines.

Safe to use during breastfeeding.

Calls for application twice a day rather than 3-4 times a day like other formulas.

Cost half of what other formulas cost.

Application results in a thick layer of moisture on the skin that lasts all day, preventing dryness.

Smells pleasant.

Seems quite successful at preventing stretch marks.

Cons:

Thick layer that prevents drying can cause clothes to stick to you, and generally make you feel “icky”.

Most women say that it does nothing to reduce the appearance of old stretch marks.

The sweet smell can agitate morning sickness in some women.

Cost is higher than other prevention products.

Hard to find in a retail location.

In order to receive full benefits of the product you must begin using it early in your pregnancy, before your belly begins to grow.

For a product to work properly, it needs to contain the right ingredients. In this case Mustela stretch marks double action is primarily used as a prevention tool to prevent stretch marks before they occur. While the website makes mention of minimizing the appearance of stretch marks the majority of women that use, or have used the product, state that it has little to no effect on existing stretch marks…new or old. Therefore, we should focus on ingredients that moisturize the skin and increase the skins elasticity and suppleness, to prevent the stretch marks from occurring. The main active ingredients in Mustela double action are Elastoregulator®, a soy peptide derivative, Chlorophycea, and Lupeol combined with Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Elastoregulator, a soy derivative, reinforces the skin’s elasticity by promoting the production of collagen and elastin, when used in combination with alpha hydroxy acid it stimulates cellular renewal and acts on reducing the prominence of stretch marks. Lupeol stimulates collagen production. In English this translates to a lot of ingredients that moisturize and increase the production of collagen and elastin, a critical component to preventing stretch marks.

It is important to remember that this product is intended to prevent stretch marks, not to cover them or eliminate them. Mustela has received some unjust negative reviews from women who bought the product in an attempt to reduce the appearance of old stretch marks. The product description is for stretch mark prevention. In general this product seems to have a large base of followers that either love it or hate it. The greater majority of women that I found who bought this product to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, and who started using it early on, had only positive comments about it. The completely uniform number one complaint on the product was pricing, not failure to prevent stretch marks. In conclusion, Mustela seems like a great product that offers full spectrum protection against the development of stretch marks. However, you must remember that stretch marks may occur no matter what you use do to genetics and internal changes.

Stretch marks occur when the dermis layer of tissue is stretched too rapidly and is not properly suited to handle such a stretch. A stretch mark is actually a scar deep within the tissue, and can be caused by a number of events like pregnancy, puberty, or any type of rapid growth.

It is safe to say that these scars are the bane of every woman’s existence and many of us would, or already have, dipped into our retirement funds to find a product or procedure that can erase these dermal layer scars. The problem is this fact has lead to the development of some very expensive, yet sometimes ineffective treatments, which boast false claims of total reversal. Lets go ahead and address the elephant in the room, stretch marks are difficult to treat, and any treatment you choose is going to take time and determination. Even the more invasive stretch mark removal procedures require subsequent visits to completely fade the mark, and no cream is ever going to “cure” you overnight!

That said lets take an in-depth look at the procedures and treatments available to help you decide which treatment is best for you. From where I stand there are four basic options available; natural treatments, laser treatments, surgical procedures, and other dermatological procedures. Other than these four things, there is time and sun bathing which aren’t really options for most of us because of the skin damage associated with sun bathing, and the unrealistic amount of time it takes for a stretch mark to fade naturally. The first treatment we will discuss is the natural approach.
Natural treatment is by far the most popular of all four treatments because it is the cheapest and least invasive. Natural treatments include the use of creams and serums, and the reason we call it natural is because the greater majority of the creams and serums on the market work with your body to speed the natural process of filling in and covering over the scars. Some of the creams on the market are quite effective at what they are created to do. However, some of these creams are nothing the more than foot cream, and they are useless at diminishing the appearance of stretch marks. Choosing a cream to diminish the appearance of your stretch marks can prove to be a daunting task because the market is so extremely flooded with creams that claim to “cure” your stretch marks.

Choosing a cream should be a well thought out and researched decision, so you don’t get scammed into buying an eighty dollar tube of foot lotion. But you must remember that researching on the internet can be quite tricky because many of the “stretch mark cream reviews” are sales gimmicks. Currently there are a few creams on the market that hold the top spot for popularity and effectiveness; they are Revitol, StriVectin-SD, and Trilastin-SR. These products are commonly suggested by doctors and surgeons as treatments for stretch marks and wrinkles because of their proven effectiveness. Because these creams have been endorsed by doctors and plastic surgeons, and are so effective, it should come as no surprise that these particular creams cost around $70.00 to $140.00 a bottle. However, cost in comparison to the next treatment, these creams are quite reasonable.

Moving on….
Laser treatments are a relatively new option in the fight against stretch marks, only becoming approved by the FDA in 2002. There are mixed reviews about the effectiveness of this procedure. On mild to moderate stretch marks the procedure seems to produce amazing results. However, when faced with severe stretch marks the laser seems to be lacking the ability to completely fade it. Nearly all reports state that the laser’s effectiveness is patient specific, meaning that each person will respond differently and the outcome does vary from person to person. This is because there are several factors to consider; the size of the stretch mark, the severity of the stretch mark, and the age of the stretch mark. Only a dermatologist will be able to tell you if he or she thinks that the procedure will help your specific case.

The laser used to remove stretch marks is not your average run of the mill laser. This laser does not cut or burn, like the lasers of the past, it actually disintegrates scar tissue using a beam of ultraviolet light. Once the old scar tissue has been obliterated the new, scar free, tissue will form; thus removing the old stretch mark. Completely removing your stretch marks will take anywhere between 6 to12 sessions, and these sessions are typically priced between $300 to $700.00 a session; depending on your physicians fees. From what I have found average overall price is about $2800.00 to $3000.00.
Surgical procedures are the oldest and most conventional way to rid your stomach of stretch marks. However, this procedure is limited to one specific area of the body; beneath the navel. Since stretch marks occur on the buttocks, breast, thighs and arms, as well as the stomach this procedure is not an ideal procedure for those individuals who have stretch marks scattered through out the body. A tummy tuck is the procedure that plastic surgeons use to tighten the abdomen and remove excess skin, as well as remove stretch marks. While this procedure is extremely effective at removing stretch marks from under the belly button, it also very invasive and requires a lot of recuperation, AND it is not recommended to have a tummy tuck to specifically remove stretch marks…it is just an added benefit.

Other Treatments include those performed by a licensed professional cosmetic dermatologist. These cosmetic dermatologists perform non-surgical procedures in their office everyday. As a matter of fact many of the procedures used to remove stretch marks are often used on other areas of the body like the face, one such procedure is a chemical peel; another is Microdermabrasion, and lastly blue light therapy. Usually these procedures are used to treat wrinkles, age spots, or acne. However, when you think about it becomes quite logical that they would work just as well for stretch marks.

Chemical peels use chemicals at different strengths to peel off the top layers of damaged, dead skin and activate new skin cell production. This is basically the same premise as stretch mark cream, except super charged to jump start the regeneration process.
Microdermabrasion is bascially the same thing as a chemical peel except with out the chemicals. During microdermabrasion fine crystals are blasted at your skin to remove the outermost layer of dead skin, and improve the over all appearance of your skin.
Blue light therapy is typically used for treatment of acne, and is used to slightly reduce the appearance of the stretch marks. This works on the same lines as tanning.

These treatments vary greatly in cost from practitioner to practitioner, and are not typically thought of as the most effective form of treatment for stretch marks. However, they have been shown to reduce the appearance slightly, and improve the appearance of skin over all. Choosing a procedure or treatment for your stretch marks is completely up to you, but, should you choose a surgical procedure you must know that they should only be considered if you are in optimum health. No matter what you choose always remember that beauty radiates from the inside out!

Does Cosmetyn Work? There is a lot of press about this new stretch mark cream. We decided to look at the ingrediants to see what really going on with this Stretch Mark Cream.

Examining the ingredients of a Cosmetyn will give you a better idea of whether or not the product will be effective at achieving its claims. So let’s take a look at the ingredients in Comestyn:

Palmitoyl Oligopeptide: Is an extremely impressive ingredient! Palmitoyl Oligopeptide is a synthetic peptide, and we know that peptides are the building blocks, or foundation for the bonding of amino acids. And they are also extremely effective at repairing skin damage. Palmitoyl Oligopeptide is quickly becoming one of the most popular ingredients in anti aging skin care. The manufacturers of this particular synthetic peptide tell us that when applied to the skin it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.

The bad news is the only company that has run trials on this product, which is also the company boosting its amazing success, is the company that is responsible for creating it…Proctor and Gamble. This is not to say that the product doesn’t work, theoretically the product should work amazingly, but it would be reassuring to have a second opinion on testing.

Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: Is yet another type of Peptide that has amazing potential to smooth and regenerate the surface layer of skin all while increasing skin elasticity, and tone. The makers of Comestyn claim that this peptide greatly reduces the appearance of stretch marks by making the surface layer of skin thicker.

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: Is also a peptide, however, it is renowned for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is actually commonly referred to as topical botox. While this particular peptide has proven effective at reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, I had trouble finding any conclusive results of it on its own treating stretch marks. Although in conjunction with the other peptides in this formula, I am quite sure it boosts its effects.

Rutin: Is an all natural product commonly found in stretch mark creams, and other topical applications to treat other skin aliments. Makers of this cream, and others, claim that it is essential to stretch mark reduction because of its strong ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Phaseolus Lutanus Extract: Trypsin and Chemotrypsin are responsible for destroying certain peptides in the body; Phaseolus Lutanus Extract blocks this synthesis from happening there by allowing the body to make increased amounts of collagen and elastin.

Emblica Phyllanthus Extract: Removes the pink and purple color from the skin surrounding a stretch mark.

Licorice Extract: Is excellent at fighting age spots and discoloration, this is a common ingredient in most stretch mark creams.

Hydrocotyl Extract: Is a natural healer it reduces swelling and puffiness, promotes healing and collagen production.

Bearberry Extract: Is commonly used to reduce the appearance of freckles, age spots, and other skin discolorations. In this case it is used to remove the discoloration surrounding the stretch mark.

Emu Oil: Has amazing healing powers on human skin because of its nearly identical make up as human skin. Emu oil has been linked to many healing claims, however, there is not enough sufficient evidence to prove or disprove this claim.

Thanks to StretchMarkCream.net for the Cosmetyn Review

The answer to this question is yes and no. First of all lets go ahead and get it out in the open…there is no way, other than plastic surgery, to “remove” or “cure” cellulite. There I said it, the ugly truth!! Now, there are ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Cure it you can’t, but reduce it you can. The idea that a cream can reduce the appearance of cellulite is simply too much for some people to believe. But believe it or not, many women would not be caught bare legged without it!

What many people don’t understand is that cellulite creams have a very specific formula that works by tightening the surface layer of the skin. Not only do they work on the surface of the skin, they penetrate the top layer to work as a diuretic to draw the liquid out of the trapped areas. This tightening and diuretic effect can give the appearance of tighter, more sculpted skin. However, one must realize that cellulite creams are not a miracle cure, it takes time.

Women all over the country are rushing out to their local department stores to buy these cellulite creams, they buy them…with a pessimistic mind, and expect results in two applications. There in lies the problem! Cellulite creams, like other type of creams to reduce the appearance of other problematic issues women face such as stretch marks, take time and patience. In our busy fast paced world this is a rare commodity we have little of. 99% of these creams clearly state that results may be noticed in 4 weeks of continuous use.

One thing the woman, or man, buying the cream needs to be extremely cautious about is the type of cream they buy. Anti-cellulite creams are a dime a dozen, meaning there are countless numbers of products available to the consumer, and all of them make the same or similar claims of greatness. The number one factor that determines your success with a product is the product itself! If you buy a product that has never been tested, or is made by a fly by Night Company, for ten dollars cheaper than the other more popular product, you may be purchasing foot cream in a fancy tube! This will do nothing for, or have no effect on your cellulite.

This is not to say that you must buy the most expensive product on the market, just make sure the product you are buying has many satisfied customers, and not just scorned ones. Essentially deciding which cream to buy is up to you as the consumer, but if you have been using a specific cream for some time and have failed to see results switch brands and give it another try. A good cellulite cream is usually very effective!
